The autumn stage of the Open LASERWAR Cup 2018 was held in Samara on September 29 and 30. Eight teams competed in skill and tactics at the Dubrava playground. The organizer of the tournament was the local laser tag club Volzhskaya Zastava. 
Open LASERWAR Cup – the largest and most authoritative laser tag tournament in the Volga region. Competitions have been held since 2016. The players use the LASERWAR equipment. The organizers of the tournament are the clubs Laserwar (Ulyanovsk), Laserwar (Kazan) and Polygon-16 Bastion (Naberezhnye Chelny). Laser tag fans 14 years of age and older from all cities of Russia can participate in the competition. The results of all four stages determine the winning team.
The representatives of the Samara Volzhskaya Zastava club were responsible for the organization of Open LASERWAR Cup 2018 Autumn. The guys approached the matter thoroughly: it took more than a month to prepare the event, three game scenarios were implemented. As a result, the tournament was successful and gathered a lot of positive feedback.
The winner of the competition for the second time in a row was the Legion team from Kazan. The SKIF team from Ulyanovsk took the second place, the third place got their countrymen from the Forrest Gump team. We congratulate the winners and wish all the clubs further prosperity!
Well, the fans of laser battles will soon see the winter Open LASERWAR Cup, at the end of which we will declare the winner of 2018. Competitions will be held in Syzran on December 1 and 2. On November 4, the twelfth laser tag tournament for the Katyusha cup was be held in Volgograd. Its permanent organizer is the laser tag club of the same name. The participants of the competition traditionally use the LASERWAR equipment for playing.
The tournament for this cup has stood the test of time and is very popular among fans of laser tag battles. It's hard to believe that in May 2013 it all started from small town competitions. At that period of time, the wired equipment only was used. Today these interregional sports competitions unite the strongest teams from the cities of Stary Oskol, Rostov-on-don, Saratov, Volzhsky, Volgograd region twice a year. The composition of players changes, the regular participants were joined by newcomers. The venue of the tournament – the hero city of Volgograd remains unchanged.
Once again, the teams gathered on November 4 to test their accuracy. You can find exciting photos from the event at the official tournament page on Vkontakte — a Russian social network. In total, six teams fought for the victory. 
What else is known about how the competition went?
To participate, a team needed 140 $. The team should consist of eight plus two substitute players. The performance of the team without substitute players and/or with the number of participants less than eight is allowed, the team doesn`t receive any bonuses in that case.
A field kitchen was be opened, which means that players could count on hot food and fresh tea.
Traditionally, the winner will be able to play for free in the next tournament. By the way, the strongest participant of the previous 11th tournament for the Katyusha cup SPRING 2018 was the Legend-Cascade team from the city of Stary Oskol. The winners are:

From 3 to 5 October the exhibition center in Moscow hosted the 12th Moscow international exhibition "Amusement Parks and attractions equipment RAAPA EXPO AUTUMN-2018". The LASERWAR team took part in the event. Our guys haven`t returned from the capital empty-handed – the company was awarded a diploma.
In total, the event was attended by about 100 companies from Russia, Belarus, China, Turkey, Italy, the Czech Republic and other countries. The theme of the exhibition covered all the main areas of the modern entertainment industry: park attractions, virtual reality, game simulators, equipment for children and sports grounds, bowling, water parks and much more.
The results of the autumn forum confirmed its relevance and demand among industry professionals. Thus, 18 companies participated in RAAPA EXPO AUTUMN for the first time. The number of foreign exhibitors has also increased. 16 foreign companies – firms from China and manufacturers from Europe came to the forum to exchange experience. The grand project of the amusement park in the Russian style is being implemented today in the most populous province of China – Henan. The presentation of the X-GEN 10th generation of laser tag equipment is going to be held on Sunday, October 28.

At 6 p.m. we expect our guests at Gagarin SPACE cultural and entertainment center at 124, Yaroslavskoe route, Moscow. The meeting will take place at spacious Gagarin Hall, which was specifically created for holding big events.

In the updated Hostage firmware version 09.03.12, we have implemented such parameters as autorevival and health regeneration, which had been added to laser tag configurator version 8.5.7, which we have written about before.

Now a wounded hostage can have his health regenerated within an interval that is selected in a configurator (health regeneration mode). In case a hostage dies, he can be activated again without an instructor’s remote in autorevival mode.

Now that these modes have been added, play set application possibilities within a scenario will be significantly increased. They can serve as a basis for creation of NPC characters such as zombies, which can recover automatically.

We’d like to remind you that you can set up Autorevival and Regeneration parameters via a USB base using the laser tag configurator programme. To ensure the correct operation of your USB base, we suggest that you update its firmware to the latest version, which can be found on our website.

We have already written about the changes that have been done to the parameters of game characters in the new version of laser tag configurator 8.5.7. We have added the Autorevival point to the parameters of game characters. It allows to enter new types of NPCs (a non-player character is a character that is not controlled by a player). These may include all sorts of monsters, zombies, hostages and even common players – all those who cannot be killed for good. After a interval that has been set up in autorevival the killed character will be automatically activated, without the help of instructors or remotes. You can use your limitless fantasy to decide how to apply this function in game scenarios. Meanwhile, we are going to explain how to ensure that everything works fine.

To use the new autorevival function, besides updating your configurator, you need to update the firmware of generation 8 and 9 tagers to versions 8.01.71 and 9.02.57, which support the mode. The new firmware will make it possible to revive a character automatically after the selected time interval without the need to send the command signal by a remote or a first aid kit. Besides, the code of the firmware has been additionally checked and the outdated and unneeded blocks have been removed, thus making its operation more stable.

Please note: when updating the firmware of generation 9 weapons, please update the firmware of headbands to the latest version, which can be found on our website, for they have updated algorithms for a Bluetooth module.

When updating the firmware of generation 8 tagers, you do not need to update the firmware of your headbands.

Dear friends, we are happy to introduce a new version of LASERWAR configurator. Changes have been done to the Hostage section. Autorevival interval has been added in the settings tab of the new play set. Game characters will not ‘depend’ on an instructor with a remote any more. A hostage will now restore health automatically – this will depend on the value that has been selected in the configurator.

More flexibility with settings and fewer unnecessary moves on the part of an instructor. With every new version of LASERWAR configurator we strive to make your laser tag games even better.

Now that we have realized the most successful projects, we are not going to stop here – construction flaws are frequently revealed when equipment is hired out, so we continue perfecting our gadgets.

This time, changes have been done to the Smart control point. We have considered the flaws that were revealed in the process of equipment hire and have fully transformed the construction of the top panel of the device.

The indicator panel of the control panel was initially protected by a matt cover made of relatively pliable plastic, which turned out to be one of the flaws. In the heat of a battle for control point capture, sometimes players get too active, so the protective cover receives excessive pressure from hits and bends. As a result, the sensitive parts of indication get damaged. Besides, the matt finish of the plastic cover smothers the magnificently diverse colours of the RGB indication and renders capturing control point at a minimum power level of a tager difficult.

We have considered all the feedback and transformed the construction of the indication panel and the infrared sensors of the Smart control point. The device is now fitted with a new durable and absolutely transparent polycarbonate top cover. A new special mould has been made for its production. Consequently, the following problems have been solved:

1. A tough and durable polycarbonate dome provides secure protection to the circuit boards of the device against accidental hits during games.
2. The properties of the material of the new cover allow for more reliable connection to the sticker with symbols at the top panel.
3. The crystal clear plastic makes capture indication even more bright.
4. The high transparency of the cover and the new construction of the sensor allow to play even at 1% power of a tager.

We have already launched the production of the updated Smart control point. The devices that were produced earlier can be upgraded at service centres.

The latest update of software has affected the way the statistics is now displayed. After the VKONTAKTE social network changed the API interface, displaying statistics in VK became impossible. This problem has been solved in the new version of LASERWAR configurator. To display statistics on a wall of a VK page, all one needs to do is to click on the social network logo icon in the Statistics section. After that, the program will ask you to log in and will send a report to the wall of the specified page. Obviously, you must choose the settings on your VK page that allow adding materials to the wall.

Friends, it was one of our most interesting trips to a laser tag club for an interview!  '5th Stage' Club is located in the Moscow Oblast, Balashikha, subdistrict Zheleznodorozhny. More than 4000 square meters present a full-fledged gaming complex with a recreation area, a cafe, a maze playground, a two-storey hideout building and partitions.

Everything is decorated in the same design style highlighting military theme and fascinating guests and customers. In addition to the organization of celebrations, the club is engaged in educational work among the younger generation, arranges lectures, intellectual quizzes and competitions. Services and security are provided at the highest level. Professional approach is felt in every detail.

We talked with the head of the club, Sergey Prosvetov about the meaning of business, attitude to clients and the creative part of any business.

— Sergey, could you please tell us when and how '5th Stage' has appeared?

— The business started in summer of 2015. There was nothing but thick layer of dust. Initially this building was designed as parking. At some point it was discovered that it was inconsistent with standards, and we could rent some of the idle premises. Till October we were refurbishing, doing initial repairs, setting up the playgrounds equipment. When we started, each day brought some new surprises. We had to get things going fully: from such small points as room heating to the scenarios development. Time and resources were limited. But we had more than enough of ideas and projects! That’s how it was started.

— Seeing the club now, it’s hard to imagine, that opening was connected with any difficulties…

— Of course, we had difficulties. Not only resources and technical issues. To our surprise, we’ve met counteraction of the local officers, economic security agency, Rospotrebnadzor. I don’t know what kind of threat they have managed to see in us, but they visited us. Now I can remember this with a smile. The main thing I have understood is: all these issues have made the club stronger and spurred my excitement.

— Looking back at your experience, what would you advise the novice laser tag entrepreneur to succeed?

— Well, you know, I can dilate on this question for a long time providing recommendations. But from my point of view each one meets his own difficulties as well as circumstances under which the club is opened. Therefore, I have only one thing to recommend: create a plan, adhere to the system and do not give up. I’ve been pursuing my dream for a long time and could have stopped a million times. I have not done it and now I am enjoying the results of my persistence. But I have to warn (and most of entrepreneurs will agree), that anyone, who is going to set up his own business, should be ready to the lack of meal and sleep, until his business is on its track.

— Sergey, obviously, setting up any business requires some initial budget. And where did you find the resources for the start and development of your club?

— During the first year of the club existence I’ve also been combining business with my day job. I think, it’s what a lot of people do, as it’s difficult to give up the stable income. After the main job I went to the club and spent evening and most part of the night there. In the morning I woke up and went to the main job again. More than a year the club was in the red, I covered the deficit from my own resources and credits, there was not enough money. Business of any size often meets a lack of money for all the ideas, but at square one it’s evident more than ever. By the way, reverting to the recommendations for novice entrepreneurs, I would like to note: it’s essential to remember that money is a finite resource. And even when it seems to be much of it is necessary to deal with it properly. It’s obligatory to estimate all risks when preparing budgets and investments, to analyze supply and demand, market situation. But there is no reason to be afraid of periods when you run out of money. It can be extremely useful. It often causes the burst of motivation and gives room for creativity.

— Sergey, who do you think should be engaged in laser tag? Or, for example, are there people who should not get down to this business?

— I am sure that such a division should not exist. It is enough for a person just to want to have his own business. In addition, if he also likes to play laser tag, it will be a lucky trump card. I guess it is true in the context of other stories that you have heard. However, it happened to me in a different way. I've always wanted to be an entrepreneur. Moreover I was able to see in laser tag the golden mean between the means of profit and the opportunity to work with the younger generation, to have a positive impact on their development and generally to benefit society. In my opinion, this is a perfect layout.

— Sergey, does '5th Stage' have any peculiarities in interaction with clients?

— Of course. We have created the system, within it we can gather full data and analyze them. We check what kinds of service, games and scenarios get the highest demand and where we sag. It helps to organize our work and take the correct direction. We have customer service experts, the aim of their work is not only in the fact of sale, but in particular approach to the client. We ask the age of the customer, if it’s a child we check about the school, his interests, to advise the most appropriate programs and age group. We try to improve our approach taking laser tag business to the higher level.

— Sergey, could you please tell us about the most effective methods of advertising in laser tag area?

— Following my own observations I came to the conclusion that it’s word of mouth undoubtedly. Clients came to us one after another exactly through it. But this method only seems to be free and the easiest. There is one condition for this method to work: constantly high quality of the service and dynamics in development and appearance of novelties. It’s a simple logical chain: interesting scenarios plus quality of service means happy customer, who will come again and bring a friend, who will bring his friend and so on exponentially. Therefore, we should always work at the product or service, think up the novelties, take the best from partners’ experience. In other words anticipate the customer’s expectations. Word of mouth starts to work, when club has already proven itself at the market. Speaking of the opening phase we have started with the distribution of leaflets, invited the clients within coupons, lured customers within discounts, and then moved to establishing the niche in social networks, using facilities of social media marketing. This work is still going on actively. 

— I can’t help telling about my favourite promotion method: organization of citywide events by the club. At the moment we have decided to conduct such campaigns on annual basis. This event is in fact a festival, where the various creative people and teams are gathered together. We give them an opportunity to fulfill themselves: there is a fair of the creativity and handmade in the placement, the photographers, painters and street artists. The stage, where the singers and dance groups perform, is mounted in the same premise.

— Festival is held in very cozy and cheerful ambience, and all guests are enjoying it. As well as the employees are enjoying the event and its role in the life of the city. In such a way we give people a cause to speak of the club. We show what we can and, what is more important, what we want to do for children, youth and the city in whole. Speaking honestly, that warms up our hearts and unites us. Generally any business should have a goal much loftier than getting a profit. That’s why we hurry to get here just like to get home. That’s why we are ready to the lack of sleep and to do our best with maximum vim and vigor.

— Sergey, you mentioned the great cohesion and energy of the team. And on what basis do you search for and take on employees?

— If we continue the previous topic, the answer will be obvious. I believe that a person can be taught everything. It could be done by giving explanations, showing by example, giving a mentor after all. Nevertheless, if he does not have such qualities in his soul as a desire to help, to feel with someone, to have empathy and love for people, then everything is useless. You can feel it at the very first interview. These are the qualities what distinguish all the club employees. Everyone, starting with me, tries to bring meaning and good to their surroundings. Any person, especially a client, feels the attitude towards himself on a subconscious level. Perhaps that's why we're so appreciated. All team members of "5 уровень" are united by the need to share internal warmth with the client, colleague, friend. And this is possible only when there is warmth inside you.

— Sergey, thank you very much for such interesting answers. We were very pleased to meet and learn about you and your club. We wish you good luck and success in further prosperity!

Good news for science fiction lovers. As unusual as this device looks, it is based upon the good old M4A1 with fairly familiar features. Adjustable butt on the piped foundation, comfortable rubber-coated pistol grip, steel magazine case, a recharge mechanism that is easy to handle by both hands, backsight, hid by the plastic attachment, fully unmask the prototype weapon.

The tagger's frame is made out of punched metal parts and plastic. Adjustable butt with a cheekpiece of the anatomic shape has three static positions allowing to rectify it according to your demands. Plastic forearm forms an ergonomic handle, which is convenient in use both while shooting and carrying the weapon.

The aiming device is presented by an open front sight and a two-postion adjustable dioptrical rear sight.

The assault scopes ensure hitting the target from a distance up to 185 meters.

Activating of the tagger is realized on the controller of the fire mode, situated under the thumb. Two positions of the controller switch between the mode of single-shot fire and the mode of short bursts (3 shots each). A powerfull speaker guarantees a clear and realistic sound, while the recoil simulator in the butt stock will add to the shot effect.

Inside the model there is a lithium battery 2.2 Ah and the electronics of the 8th generation. The gaming set will work for 30 hours and after that will need charging. For this any LASERWAR chargers of the Li+ series will do. The charging socket is located at the butt end of the pistol grip, the LED power-on indicator is unobservable under the brace of the trigger.

The weight of the rifle is 2.5 kg, length with a folded grip is 72 cm, with unfolded grip — 80 cm.
